Travel – The Magnificent Monte-Carlo Country Club

Regardless if you’re into tennis or not, it’s difficult to imagine a more spectacular setting for a country club than The Monte-Carlo Country Club. Set high on the Monaco coastline, this members-only club is without doubt one of the most beautiful and unique settings in the world, featuring world-class courts surrounded by majestic villas, pine trees and azure blue sea.

Rich in both history and fame (much like Monaco itself) the club has been home to grand tennis tournaments since the late 1800’s, hosting legends such as Becker, Ferrero and Nadal. The glittering tournament has now become part of the ATP Masters Series and goes under the name of Rolex Masters – a classic event on the Cote d’Azur social calendar.

There’s plenty to do apart from tennis, though. Yoga classes are offered on a magnificent terrace overlooking the sea and there are massage treatments, a state-of-the-art gym as well as a stunning mirrored pool where you can take swimming lessons. Afterwards, you might wish to dine at one of the two clubhouse restaurants, or enjoy a cocktail at the bar.

Despite it’s name, the club is not actually located in Monte Carlo or even in Monaco, but in neighbouring Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. To become a member, you have to be sponsored by two existing members, and pay a pretty hefty annual fee. Visitors are welcome even though some areas, such as the pool, are restricted to those visiting under a member’s invitation.
